Tonight, “Saturday Night Live” celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special featuring a mammoth list of special guests including Kanye West, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler, Jack White, Justin Timberlake, and many others. (Rumored guest Fiona Apple didn’t appear.)

Some highlights:

– Kanye performed “Jesus Walks” while lying on his back on the stage. He then stood up to perform “Only One” and new song “Wolves” with Sia (in an enormous wig) and Vic Mensa.

– Kanye also was the punchline of several jokes in a “Wayne’s World” sketch. Remember the last time Kanye and Mike Myers were on TV together?:

Apparently, Kanye was wearing some insane contact lenses:

– Win Butler and Candice Bergen introduced Miley Cyrus’ cover of “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” (with Fred Armisen on tambourine):

– The show opened with Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon doing an amazing musical tribute to “Saturday Night Live”‘s most memorable sketches and catchphrases:

– Paul McCartney and Paul Simon duetted on the Beatles’ “I’ve Just Seen a Face”:

– McCartney performed “Maybe I’m Amazed”.

– Jack White, in a dramatic pompadour, introduced Paul Simon.

– Maya Rudolph did her Beyoncé impression, complete with “Drunk in Love” parody :
