Kid Cudi Has Written a TV Pilot, Wants Paul Reubens (Pee-wee Herman) to Star in It

Kid Cudi stopped by the Talkhouse’s film podcast to ask Paul Reubens (the mastermind behind Pee-wee Herman) some questions about his new Netflix movie Pee-wee’s Big Holiday. Cudi grew up a big fan of “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” and first met Reubens five years ago when he was filming “How to Make It in America.” He talks about how that chance meeting helped him adapt to fame. “I was definitely in a weird place in my life at that time,” Cudi says of meeting Reubens. “Fame is a weird thing and I was adjusting, so to see you brought me back to Scott in the midst of Kid Cudi, HBO, you know, what was happening: ‘How to Make It in America.’ It brought me back to this kid. It was pure. That’s why I always say it’s something that I’ll always remember. Because at that time I was definitely troubled and dealing with a lot.” Cudi opens up to Reubens about the role his mom, a music teacher, played in his becoming a musician. She pushed him to be in the choir and encouraged him to sing. “If she wanted me to do a solo I’d say, ‘cool, if you get me these Jordans I’ll do it,’” he said. He also reveals that he’s written a TV pilot and wants Reubens to play a role. Listen to the whole episode, and watch some clips from recording below.

Earlier this month, Cudi shared the Mike Will Made-It-produced “All In.” It followed “The Frequency” with Plain Pat and Mike Dean, which was released in March. His most recent album, Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven, came out last December. Back in 2014, Reubens starred in the video for TV on the Radio’s “Happy Idiot.”
