Killer Mike has been campaigning for Bernie Sanders. During his speech at a rally in Atlanta, he drew criticism for one quote in particular. After referencing recent arguments that women should vote for Hillary Clinton because of her gender, he quoted teacher and activist Jane Elliott. “Jane said, ‘Michael, a uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president of the United States. You have to have policy that’s reflective of social justice.’”

As Mashable reports, Mike is getting backlash over the quote. Brad Woodhouse, head of the pro-Clinton super PAC Correct the Record, tweeted that the sentiment is “sexist bullshit” and called on Sanders to condemn the rapper.

Like their hasn’t been enough sexist bullshit on this campaign – now this from @BernieSanders camp. https://t.co/3Uq36QQAat

After Mike received several similar messages on Twitter, he responded, clarifying that he was quoting a progressive woman who had spoken to him about why she wasn’t planning to vote for Clinton. He tweeted:

So Women are being told to not vote Hillary is sex betrayal & Becuz another progressive woman says something disagreeing I’m sexist. Lmfao
