Father John Misty has debuted another new track from his forthcoming record Pure Comedy (out April 7 via Sub Pop/Bella Union). During an appearance on Lauren Laverne’s BBC Radio 6 show, he performed the 13-minute “Leaving LA.” He says he spent “a good three years on this song.” It includes lyrics like, “These L.A. phonies and their Pitchfork bands that sound like dollar signs and Amy Grant,” and “Oh great, another white guy in 2017 who takes himself so goddamn seriously.” After finishing the track, he said, “That’s the whitest, most acoustic thing you’ve ever seen.” Listen below.

“Leaving LA” is the fourth offering from Pure Comedy. It follows the title track, “Two Wildly Different Perspectives,” and “Ballad of the Dying Man.” FJM has also shared multiple music videos, a short film, and an essay about the record. Additionally, he spoke candidly about it with Zane Lowe in a revealing interview.
