I Love Dick” is the new television series from Amazon, co-created by “Transparent”’s Jill Soloway and based on the cult novel of the same name by Chris Kraus. The show follows a struggling couple, Chris and Sylvere, and their growing obsession with an acquaintance named Dick (played by Kevin Bacon). Music supervisor Bruce Gilbert has crafted a new playlist featuring 17 of the songs found in the show’s first season—artists featured include Arthur Russell, Laura Mvula, Ratatat, New York Dolls, Steve Gunn, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and more. Bruce Gilbert:

The groundbreaking nature of I Love Dick allowed me to tune into the undeniable… that there is a spirit of joy and love and longing in this show, a story at once holy and silly, that required just the right soundtrack. Contributions by Meshell Ndegeocello, Roberta Flack, Mirah, and most notably the late Lhasa de Sela whose songs play throughout the season, help tell this wildly original tale. It’s a music supervisor’s dream job.

Jill Soloway:

I’m so crazy about this soundtrack for “I Love Dick.” The music is an homage to yearning, to art and to the west and the south and the southwest, to South America and to longing, with a thrumming heart that awakens everyone who hears it. Bruce Gilbert’s curation connects to the soul of this show and the wild desire at the center of this series.
