Lou Reed, Green Day, and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts Inducted Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the class of 2015. Lou Reed, Green Day, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bill Withers, and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band have all been inducted. Ringo Starr will recieve the Award of Excellence, while 1950s R&B group  the “5″ Royales have been selected for the Early Influence Award. The Smiths, Nine Inch Nails, Chic, N.W.A., Sting, and Kraftwerk were nominated, but were not inducted this year.

Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, Kiss, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, and Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band were inducted last year.

In order to be eligible for induction, artists need to have released their first single or album 25 years ago (no later than 1989). Fans cast votes, as well, and the top five artists selected by the public were part of a “fans’ ballot” that weretallied with other votes from an international voting body.
