Method Man Walks Back Once Upon a Time in Shaolin Criticism, Says He "Can't Stand" Cilvaringz

Wu-Tang Clan recently revealed that the one-of-a-kind album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin wouldn’t get a wide public release for at least 88 years. In an interview with XXLMethod Man was asked how he felt about the plan and replied, “That shit is fuckin’ stupid.” Now, he’s walked back those comments in a new interview with HuffPost Live.

Meth said that he “misinformed” by the magazine’s reporter about the album’s status. Apparently, he was led to understand that nobody would hear the music at all for almost a century. “The information that she gave me was ‘no one will be able to hear this album for 88 years’. I was like, ‘Really?’ ‘Cause I had no idea.”

He pegged some of the blame for the misunderstanding on RZA and Cilvaringz, saying they kept the rest of the group out of the loop regarding the album’s release plans.

“Can’t stand Cilvaringz, by the way,” he said. He called the producer a “B-level Wu guy” who came up with the album’s gimmick and left the rest of the group to answer questions that they weren’t equipped to answer. “Yes, I’m discrediting Cilvaringz,” he said, “but I’m not discrediting the product.”

The conversation also led to a discussion about his frustration with hip-hop media outlets in general. Because of his XXL interview, he said he wouldn’t do interviews with hip-hop-centric publications ever again.
