New Swans Doc Where Does a Body End? Kickstarter Announced

A new Swans documentary, Where Does a Body End?, will document the band’s most recent incarnation as well as provide a comprehensive history of the Michael Gira-fronted project over the course of the past 35 years. Helmed by filmmaker Marco Porsia, the film has been in the works since 2010. Porsia has filmed over 40 of the band’s live shows since then, in addition to tour rehearsals, the recording of their album The Glowing Man, and interviews with numerous musicians (including Lee Ranaldo, Thurston Moore, Jehnny Beth, Amanda Palmer, and more). The documentary will also feature archival video footage from 1984-1997, recorded during live shows and on tour.

According to a press release, “The aim of the documentary is not to be just a traditional music documentary about a band but more of an artistic piece to help put the band and its music in their rightful place in the annals of cultural history.” A Kickstarter campaign has been launched for the film; at time of writing, the campaign has raised over half of its goal. (The craziest backer rewards, original Public Castration is a Good Idea and Children of God shirts worn by Jarboe, have already been snapped up.)
