Nile Rodgers Enlists Supermodel Karlie Kloss for Chic's "I'll Be There" Video

Chic feat. Nile Rodgers, the latest incarnation of the influential disco-funk group, have released the new track “I’ll Be There”, a collaboration with the house duo the Martinez Brothers. It’s the first single from new album It’s About Time, the first credited to Chic since 1992′s Chic-Ism. Directed by Inez & Vinoodh, the video stars supermodel Karlie Kloss and features vintage Chic footage along with a new performance. Check it out at Rodgers’ Facebook.

On his website, Nile Rodgers detailed the song’s background. He said it was taken from an early session for a Sister Sledge song, and that it was named after he discovered the body of Chic co-founder Bernard Edwards, who died in 1996 following a Chic concert in Japan.

I said, ‘Now, I can be there for you in death, the way you were there for me in life,’” he writes. “Back in the day ‘Nard always looked out for me. I was the reckless one. We had lots of fun and good times. So on the song’s surface it’s really happy. It’s about the origin of CHIC, and how dance music changed our lives forever.”

The video is being released today because it’s the vernal equinox—when day and night are the same length—and because there’s a solar eclipse in parts of the Northern Hemisphere.

At 5 p.m. Eastern today, Chic will live stream their show from London.
