Pearl Jam Invite Snubbed Former Drummers to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction

Pearl Jam are members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2017 induction class. However, the Rock Hall doesn’t always recognize a band’s complete lineup. (Nirvana’s pre-Dave Grohl drummer Chad Channing is not a member of the Rock Hall, for example, and neither is former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Buckethead.) The Rock Hall’s website specifies six members of the band who will be inducted, including drummers Matt Cameron and Dave Krusen. Former drummers Dave Abbruzzese, Jack Irons, and Matt Chamberlain are not listed as inductees, and recently, Abbruzzese aired his frustrations over the snub on his Facebook. Today, Pearl Jam have shared a note on Facebook where they publicly invited every former drummer to the induction ceremony.

“While awards and accolades are understandably subjective and a countless number of our peers have yet to be honored, we do feel fortunate to be recognized and provided the opportunity to reunite with everyone who has been part of the group,” they wrote. “Specifically, the drummers who left their distinctive mark on our band in the pre-Matt Cameron years. Dave Krusen, Matt Chamberlain, Dave Abbruzzese, and Jack Irons are each individually great players who gave their all to the early recordings and live gigs. Looking forward to seeing them and all the other musicians on the bill.”

A representative for the Rock Hall clarified to Rolling Stone that while Abbruzzese, Irons, and Chamberlain have been invited to the ceremony, they will not be inducted.

In the note, Pearl Jam also expressed their regrets that fellow nominees Bad Brains and Jane’s Addiction weren’t inducted as well. “If nothing else it makes us feel lucky and appreciative of the nod,” they wrote. Find the full note below. It was recently revealed that Neil Young will induct Pearl Jam into the Rock Hall.
