Pitchfork Seeks Motion Designer/Animator

Pitchfork’s award-winning video team seeks a creative and versatile Motion Designer/Animator, with between one and three years of professional experience. The Motion Designer/Animator will partner with Pitchfork producers, directors, and writers to create dynamic 2- and 3-D motion graphics for new and existing video series, documentaries, and branded content, including animated intros, typographic treatments, photo and live-action compositing, infographics, and more. In addition, this position will take a leading role in conceptualizing and creating short-form (motion design-based) video programming for multiple platforms.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Generate aesthetically diverse visual concepts based on direction from producers, directors, and writers
  • Create multiple story-boards and style frames for approval
  • Execute innovative, cinematic renderings of approved concept and style
  • Work with editorial staff to create visual interpretations of written content for video and social platforms
  • Generate graphically enhanced cut-downs, teasers, trailers, and loops of existing content for social platforms
  • Assemble and maintain an archive of visual assets, media, and project files for all work

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • One to three years of professional experience as a motion designer / animator
  • A well documented, demonstrated ability as both a designer and animator
  • Drawing and illustration abilities are a major plus
  • Expertise with Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign required (C4D experience desired)
  • Proficiency with Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Ability to manage timelines and execute multiple projects simultaneously is required
  • Examples of work and a strong reel are an absolute must
