Pitchfork is seeking an experienced Sales Director to join our team. The Sales Director will help drive revenue and develop advertising, sponsorship, content, event, and video partnerships with agencies and brands. Apply here.

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in digital media and emerging trends, and have deep experience working with advertising and marketing partners across different categories. This person should also be able to develop and help lead creative, strategic, and efficient integrated advertising and sponsorship programs while working semi-autonomously as a part of a fast-moving, exciting team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Cultivating, developing, and maintaining relationships with key advertising decision makers at both the agency and brand level
  • Developing and selling creative integrated sales ideas for digital, events, video, print, and Pitchfork’s music festivals
  • Managing all aspects of the sales communication and negotiation process from RFP to reconciliation
  • Developing and sharing expertise on client base, advertising categories, and media trends with clients and the Pitchfork team to encourage meaningful dialogue and relationships
  • Comfortable representing Pitchfork not only to clients, but also to the more general advertising community
  • Collaborating with sales team to achieve goals, providing regular sales updates, territory forecasts, target lists, and competitive analysis of sales territory.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of consultative media sales experience (digital preferred), with a proven history of meeting and exceeding goals while developing unique and creative ideas
  • Willingness to work in a small team environment with awareness of and respect for the needs of design, development, video, and editorial teams
  • Comfortable working autonomously while maintaining constructive collaborations with other members of the Pitchfork Sales team and larger corporate team in order to most efficiently reach company goals and maintain brand integrity
  • Ability to oversee full sales process in territory and grow new and existing advertising business
  • Comfort working inside of a larger organization and its sales team
  • Strong belief in and commitment to editorial values and brand integrity
  • Excellent presentation, creative, and analytical skills
  • Some travel required
