Pixies Announce Joey Santiago Has Checked Into Rehab

Pixies, whose new LP Head Carrier is due later this month, have announced that Joey Santiago has checked into rehab. The band’s longtime guitarist will spend at least 30 days in the center, where he’ll receive treatment for alcohol and drug issues. In a statement, David Lovering wrote, “While the Pixies fully intend to tour the UK and Europe this November and December, Santiago’s time in rehab will affect some of the band’s planned promotional activities.” Upcoming appearances on Conan and several radio shows have been canceled, according to Rolling Stone, but the band doesn’t expect to postpone any European dates.

In a statement quoted by Rolling Stone, Lovering added:

This is the best thing that Joey could have done, and we’re very proud that he’s taken this step. We ask all of our fans to support Joey while he’s on this road to recovery.
