Q-Tip Says A Tribe Called Quest “Don’t Intend on Stopping”

When Q-Tip announced A Tribe Called Quest’s new album We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service, he wrote on his Facebook that it would be the group’s “final” album. In a subsequent interview, he said, “This is our last record, and we’ll probably do a world tour.” Despite his comments, Tip has not fully closed the door on Tribe. In a new interview with Annie Mac on her BBC Radio 1 show, he said: “Stay tuned for any other incarnation, ’cause we don’t intend on stopping because that was Phife’s M.O. was, like, ‘This time we gotta do it and keep going,’ and now he’s left us with the equation of how do we do it, but we are going to need it, and we’re going to continue.” Listen to the full interview below. Q-Tip did not elaborate on what “any other incarnation” specifically means for A Tribe Called Quest. Earlier in the discussion, Mac asked him, “Do you feel satisfied with [We got it from Here] as a kind of final chapter for this group you’ve been involved with for your whole career?” He said yes, and called the album “closure.” He added, “I’m sure we would’ve liked to continue, but it’s just hard to imagine doing that without [Phife Dawg].”
