Raekwon and Ghostface Killah Will Review Your Mixtape If You Fund the Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Doc

Earlier this year, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah debuted the trailer for The Purple Tape Files, a documentary on Raekwon’s classic LP Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, at Sundance Film Festival. Now, they’ve announced a crowd-funding campaign to help produce the movie, as Rolling Stone reports. Below, you can watch a teaser for the movie.

The funding will be handled by crowd-sourcing platform FanBacked. You can check out the reward tiers here. There’s the usual selection of stickers, hats, posters and the like, but also a few special offerings.

For $200, Raekwon and Ghostface will review your mixtape. (Per the website: “We’ll open up our PERSONAL studios to host a recording session with our favorite artists from the tracks sent in and work with YOU on how to improve that sound and make something iconic.”) For $1,000, you’ll get admission to all of Raekwon’s shows for the next five years. For $2,500 you get studio time with Raekwon. For $4,000, you’ll get to spend a whole day with Raekwon.

“The album was our vision, and the thought of having anyone but us in the driver’s seat was unthinkable,” Raekwon told Rolling Stone. “This project is for the fans by the fans, me included. I’m not with the politics and shit, and being put into a position where we even would have to consider anyone’s watered down version wasn’t an option. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx was an honest and authentic project; it’s a must that the film is also.”

The FanBacked page will be active for 60 days. Then, the movie will be completed in August by Raekwon’s Third Eye Vision production company.
