Led Zeppelin Win “Stairway to Heaven” Trial

Led Zeppelin Win “Stairway to Heaven” Trial

A Los Angeles jury ruled in favor of Led Zeppelin today, in a copyright case involving “Stairway to Heaven,” the Hollywood Reporter reports. In May 2014, Michael Skidmore, a trustee for the estate of former Spirit guitarist Randy California (real name: Randy Wolfe) filed a lawsuit against Zeppelin for infringement, claiming that the introduction to the 1971 classic “Stairway” was improperly inspired by Spirit’s 1968 instrumental “Taurus.” The verdict came after a contentious trial that featured testimony from Page, Plant, and John Paul Jones. Page and Plant both denied having heard “Taurus” before they wrote “Stairway.”
