Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis was hospitalized yesterday hours before the band were set to play the KROQ Weenie Roast in Los Angeles. A representative for KROQ told Billboard that Kiedis was taken to the hospital in an ambulance from the venue when the singer began experiencing “extreme stomach pain.” The rest of the band took the stage to announce that they weren’t able to perform. “We will be playing for you very soon, and we will play for you like the feral animals full of love that we are,” said Flea. Update (05/15 6:50 p.m. ET): RHCP have issued a statement via their website to announce their iHeart Radio performance on May 17 has been cancelled. Kiedis was hospitalized due to “complications from the intestinal flu” but is expected to make a a full recovery.

Red Hot Chili Peppers recently announced that their new album The Getaway will be released on June 17.

NO one’s more disappointed than us that we couldn’t perform tonight. Sending love and a speedy recovery to my brother Anthony.
