Robert "Throb" Young, Former Primal Scream Guitarist, Has Died

Robert “Throb” Young, the former guitarist for Primal Scream, has died, The Guardian reports. He was 49 years old. According to The Guardian, he was found dead in his home in Sussex, England on Tuesday. The cause of death has not been revealed, though it is “not being treated as suspicious,” The Guardian reports.

Young joined the band in the mid-1980s, switching from bass to guitar after the release of their debut album, 1987′s Sonic Flower Groove. He played on the classic 1991 album Screamadelica, as well as 1994′s Give Out But Don’t Give Up, 1997′s Vanishing Point, 2000′s XTRMNTR, and more. Young left Primal Scream in 2006.

Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie, guitarist Andrew Innes, and the band issued this statement, according to NME: ”We have lost our comrade and brother Robert Young. A beautiful and deeply soulful man. He was an irreplaceable talent, much admired amongst his peers. In the words of Johnny Marr, ‘Throb with a gold top Les Paul – unbeatable’.”
