Sunn O))) and Scott Walker’s Soused Is a Beer Now

Members of Sunn O))) have been working with three breweries—Right Proper, Stone, and Pen Druid—to craft a beer based on their 2014 collaborative album with Scott Walker, Soused. The beer, also called Soused, is a 7.0% ABV beer that contains Nordic yeast as a nod to the Norse influences that have shaped Anderson and Stephen O’Malley’s music. (Both played in a high school band called Thorr’s Hammer.) Right Proper have also released a wheat ale named Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine after another Anderson/O’Malley band. Soused had a release party tonight. It also appeared at the Craft Brewers Conference in Washington, D.C., and it’s set to be available in parts of New York, Maryland, and Virginia.

“For us, creatively, it was our peak,” Greg Anderson told NPR about Soused (the album). “We didn’t know where to go next, but we made the record with Scott [Walker]. It was basically an impetus for us to keep moving and keep playing rather than be worried about topping the last thing we had done.”
