Taylor Threatened Kanye With Legal Action for Recording Phone Call

Last night, Kim Kardashian West leaked footage of a phone conversation between Kanye West and Taylor Swift, during which they discussed West’s controversial The Life of Pablo cut “Famous.” In the snippets, West tells Swift about the “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex” line from the song, which she appears to approve. Swift subsequently called out the Wests for leaking the footage, saying that they are committing “character assassination.” Now, TMZ has revealed that, months ago, Swift threatened legal action against Kanye for secretly recording their phone conversation.

According to TMZ, Swift’s lawyer sent a letter to West’s legal team, asserting that it is a felony in California to record a telephone call without telling the other party. An excerpt from the letter reads, “Demand is hereby made that you immediately destroy all such recordings, provide us of assurance that this has been done, and also assurance that these recordings have not been previously disseminated.”

As TMZ reports, Swift has the right to sue the Wests.

The new report corroborates Kardashian West’s claim in a June GQ interview that Swift’s team sent a letter demanding, “Don’t ever let that footage come out of me saying that. Destroy it.” In that same interview, Kardashian West said that her husband commissions a videographer to film everything while he’s making an album.
