Theophilus London Arrested in New York City, Says He’s “Too Sexy for Jail”

Theophilus London was arrested last night in New York City, as Pigeons & Planes points out. According to a photo posted on his Twitter, he was booked at 8:23 p.m. Eastern. He said that the “dispute” occurred when he was in a cab on his way to see the new Sharon Jones documentary at the IFC Center in Downtown Manhattan. He claimed that the driver refused to give him change for a $100 bill (the only cash London says he had), so he said that he waited five minutes for the man to change his mind. When he did not and screamed at London, the rapper said he broke the man’s cell phone “into 900 pieces.” From there, he said he ran into the theater where the cops “ran up on [him].” He sent most of the tweets from a jail cell, and also described his outfit and surroundings. Several times, while in jail, he said he’s too “sexy” to be there. Based on a short video, he appears to have been released around 11:10 p.m. the same night.

Pitchfork reached out to the NYPD, who confirmed that London “was arrested for not paying the fare and also taking the driver’s phone.” See his tweets below.
