Thom Yorke Shares Unreleased MF DOOM “Gazilli Remix”: Listen
Thom Yorke co-hosted three hours of radio with Benji B on BBC Radio 1. In addition to talking about Radiohead’s tour plans and how he was tired he was of surprise releases, he played a bunch of music. Near the end of the show, he shared a brand new remix of MF DOOM’s “Gazillion Ear.” (Yorke previously remixed the track in 2009.) He also discussed working with Four Tet and Burial. Following their 2011 collaborative 12″, Yorke said he worked with them on more music. “I’m hoping to do it again soon. I did another thing, and the vocal was ‘too dark,’ said Kieran [Hebden],” Yorke said, laughing. “Which for me is like ‘Really, too dark? Even for me? OK.’”
Throughout the episode, Benji and Yorke took turns playing music for each other. Benji introduced Yorke to new songs he hadn’t heard by Frank Ocean and Vince Staples. After hearing the Vince song, the Radiohead frontman said, “That was great, man.” Yorke followed up by playing a Death Grips song. Find the full setlist below.
Yorke played tracks by Scott Walker, Cocteau Twins, J Dilla, and Shabazz Palaces. He discussed his love of Madlib’s music (Quasimoto and Madvillain, particularly) and his recent affinity for Laurie Spiegel’s work. Benji asked him if he likes to have a diverse variety of music around him while he’s writing and recording new songs. “No, absolutely not,” Yorke replied. “Once I’m starting in earnest on something, that’s it. I don’t listen to anything.”
