U2 Sued for Allegedly Stealing Achtung Baby Song “The Fly”
U2 have been accused of lifting elements of their Achtung Baby song “The Fly” from a song by English songwriter Paul Rose, Billboard reports. Rose claimed in a lawsuit filed Monday that U2, who signed to Island in 1989, were seeking inspiration for the album when they heard a demo of Rose’s “Nae Slappin” that he’d sent record studio executives. Rose’s lawsuit calls for a songwriting credit on “The Fly” and $5 million in damages and fees. “Although perhaps the most popular rock band in the world in the 1980s, by that decade’s end the band felt in need of reinvigoration,” the lawsuit claims, according to Sky News.
