Watch M.I.A. Discuss Refugee Crisis, Trump, More in Oxford Union Q&A

M.I.A. recently sat down for a Q&A discussion with the Oxford Union Society. The Oxford Union has now shared her full 53-minute session. During the conversation, M.I.A. spoke about her identity as a refugee, her views on the first 100 days of Trump’s presidency, and the trajectory of her career. “Being a refugee is forever changing,” she says at one point, “We’re still a blob in the world, we’re faceless, and nobody can say why we’re here.” She also points to Sri Lanka as “a small case study for generally what happens in the rest of the world” and notes the government’s lack of transparency. “No matter how smart we are and how much technology we have and all the capabilities, we don’t know who is making the most money out of the war industry,” she says. Watch M.I.A.’s Oxford Union Q&A below.

M.I.A.’s most recent album is last year’s AIM. She recently announced her first shows in the United States since she was banned from re-entering the country last year.
