BBC News Plays Sex Pistols’ “God Save the Queen” to Mock Pro-Brexit Politician

British parliament member Andrew Rosindell recently filed a early day motion in the House of Commons to restore the tradition of playing the British national anthem “on BBC1 at the end of each day’s programming, before the switch over to BBC News 24.” The tradition initially ended in 1997, and he’d like it reinstated before the end of 2016, to honor recent the Brexit referendum and the Queen’s 90th birthday. “They used to do it and it’s time it was restored, to send out a message that Britain is back, following Brexit in tribute to Her Majesty in this, her 90th year!” he told The Telegraph.

Last night, BBC Two’s flagship program “Newsnight,” responded to Rosindell, and mocked his request by playing Sex Pistols’ “God Save the Queen,” before ending their nightly broadcast. Watch it go down, and see Rosindell’s reaction, below.

Last month, Morrissey called the results of the Brexit vote “magnificent.” Johnny Marr responded, saying a Smiths reunion seems unlikely now, given Moz’s apparent support of far-right politician Nigel Farage.

I am calling for BBC1 to play our national anthem at the end of each day! https://t.co/cjOMb45Ba7

Disappointing but not surprising how many fanatic Remoaners are mocking our national anthem. How miserable they must be! #Brexit
