D'Angelo Covers Prince's "Sometimes It Snows in April" on "The Tonight Show": Watch

D’Angelo was the musical guest on tonight’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Bathed in purple light, he honored the late Prince with a beautiful piano rendition of the Parade song “Sometimes It Snows in April.” He was joined by Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum, who have long performed Prince covers under the name Princess. D’Angelo changed the lyrics at one point, singing, “I often dream of heaven/ I know that Prince is there.” When the performance ended, Questlove tweeted:

cot damn man.

i wanna thank @FallonTonight staff for letting that happen. us fans are hurting because we didn’t have a “goodbye” or a chance to mourn.

It’s the second Prince tribute on “The Tonight Show” this week. Last night, Fallon and Questlove told a story about the time Prince challenged Fallon to a game of ping-pong.

Support has poured out from across the musical community in the wake of Prince’s death.
