Sleater-Kinney Appear on "The Chris Gethard Show"

Last night, Sleater-Kinney were guests on “The Chris Gethard Show”, the public access television show filmed in New York City. For the (very peculiar) episode, the trio of Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker, and Janet Weiss sat with the endearingly very nervous host for a game called “All Hands on the Bad One”. (“There are some people who are very, very cool coming to our show and I’m so scared they’re not going to like us,” Gethard said.)

Here’s how it worked: Gethard brought out a “deplorable” man named Todd Watch, and everyone had to keep their hands on him at all times. The winner got to destroy a miniature city made of cardboard (perhaps a nod to the name of the band’s upcoming record, No Cities to Love). Sleater-Kinney also briefly sang Peaches & Herb’s “Reunited”. Watch it all below.

As the show is filmed in New York, the widespread protests there—which took place after a grand jury decided not to indict the police officer who choked Eric Garner to death—were addressed. “We protested our way here,” Janet Weiss said. Washington, DC punk band Priests performed, and singer Katie Alice Greer opened by saying, “The justice system in our country is fucked, and black lives matter.” She also wore a shirt that said “Police Accountability Now”.
