The Wrens’ Charles Bissell’s Cancer in Remission

In March, Charles Bissell of the Wrens revealed that he was receiving treatment for multiple myeloma—a form of cancer that attacks plasma cells in bone marrow. Today, he shared some good news: He’s in remission. In a Facebook post, Bissell detailed his treatment, saying he’s on cycle seven of “a clinical trial testing one of the new breed of near-miracle drugs.” He wrote, “So unofficially, I’m in remission. Remission. Even I can see what a weird fucking word that is to use casually.” Read the full post below.

The Wrens have long been at work on the follow-up to 2005′s The Meadowlands. At the end of 2014, the band said the record was finished; in the middle of 2015, they said it was being mastered. (Last year, they also released a cassette of three songs.) Earlier this year, when revealing his cancer diagnosis, Bissell clarified that plans to release the album were being put on hold. “I’m at this point even less inclined to hop in a tour van on the multi-week plan,” he wrote.

At the end of his most recent note, Bissell teased that more news was on the way: “Anyway, thanks again for all the messages & kind words, it honestly means a great deal, and forewarned, I vow to see more of you in-person this year…”
